Großenmoor is part of the market town of Burghaun in the eastern Hessian district of Fulda .

Geographical location

Großenmoor is around five kilometers from the core town of Burghaun and to the west of it on the Großer Moor, which gives it its name and is designated as a nature reserve . This approximately 23 hectare moor area is the headwaters of the Schwarzbach, which flows through the Kiebitzgrund as a ten kilometer long right eastern tributary of the Fulda . The neighboring towns of Hechelmannskirchen , Langenschwarz and Schlotzau are also located in this valley system . The district area is 556 hectares (1961), 164 hectares of which are forested.

history

The earliest surviving mention of the place from 1501 in the spelling More certifies its existence since 1377. However, according to this document, More, like a large part of the area, was deserted around 1500 . Later the village was at times divided into Grossenmoor and Kleinmoor; the latter opened up again in Grossenmoor.

The manorial rule lay with the noble family of the Knights of Haune , who were wealthy on both sides of the lower reaches of the Haune . Their seat was at Hauneck Castle . The Reformation was introduced in Großenmoor under their rule . However, the Fulda monastery also had "subjects" in Großenmoor in the 17th and 18th centuries. This fact proves a connection to the Catholic neighboring town of Rothenkirchen .

On October 1, 1971, in the run-up to the regional reform in Hesse, the previously independent communities of Großenmoor, Hechelmannskirchen , Langenschwarz and Schlotzau were merged to form the new community of Kiebitzgrund .

Only months later on August 1, 1972, the municipality of Kiebitzgrund, and thus also Großenmoor, was incorporated into the municipality of Burghaun through the final regional reorganization law.

Transport and infrastructure

The state road 3169 , which connects the town with Burghaun and Schlitz , runs through Großenmoor .
