history

Herolz was first mentioned in a document in 1030 as "Heroldes hus", when Abbot Richard von Fulda gave the Propstei Neuenberg a free estate ("praedium") at Herolz with the lower jurisdiction . In the 13th century, a local resident and bekundetes 1278-1396 received sex Niederadeliger the office and court Herolz to the Herolz, Sannerz and Weiperz belonged, from the Abbey of Fulda to feud , and in 1277 was Prince Abbot Berthon IV. To secure the pin limit build a castle in Herolz . In the first half of the 14th century, the castle, office and court of Herolz came to the Propstei Neuenberg, partly directly through an inheritance sale based on the legacy of Gottfried von Herolz (1238), partly indirectly through the sale of Frowin von Herolz (1339) the prince abbot of Fulda, who handed them over to the provost of Neuenberg (who was also dean of Fulda). Thereafter, the provost office of Neuenberg pledged the office and court of Herolz mostly to members of the branch of the imperial gentlemen von Hutten residing at Castle Steckelberg . Lorenz von Hutten pledged the estate and court to Philipp von Eberstein in 1452, but redeemed it in 1465. In 1494 at the latest, the Herolz court was again in full possession of Fulda (although it is not known how it came about), but as early as 1500 Fulda pledged the court again, this time to Ulrich von Hutten.

In October 1546, the Fulda abbot Philipp Schenk zu Schweinsberg released the pledge from Ulrich's heirs and the Neuenberg provost, represented by its provost Philipp von Rückingen (at the same time dean of Fulda) and its dean Kaspar Lang (at the same time provost zu Hoechst and Zella), stepped in in exchange for other rights and income, transfer all their rights to the court to the prince abbey. In 1561 Fulda compared the other members of the Hutten family about all of the claims they had made to Herolz and again entrusted the family to Herolz. When Johann Hartmann von Hutten died as the last of his tribe in Sannerz in 1704, Fulda moved in the office and court with the three towns of Herolz, Sannerz and Weiperz as a settled fief and occupied it militarily. Johann Hartmann's sister Louise made claims, but they were settled with a compensation of 2504 guilders .

In 1735 Fulda formed the provost of Sannerz from the judicial district of Herolz, and in 1787 this was subordinated to the Salmünster office, which it also became in the years 1802 to 1806 within the short-lived Principality of Nassau-Orange-Fulda and from 1806 to 1810 in the so-called Principality of Fulda in Karl Theodor owned by Dalbergs Fürstprimatischem State of the Rhine Confederation . From 1810 to 1813 Herolz was part of the Salmünster district in the Fulda department of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt created by Napoleon for Karl Theodor von Dalberg . After the end of Napoleonic rule, Herolz came to the former Principality of Fulda after one year of Prussian administration in 1816 to the Electorate of Hesse , where it initially belonged to the Salmünster Office, then to the Salmünster District in 1821 , to the Schlüchtern district in 1830 , to the Hanau district in 1848 and again to the Schlüchtern district in 1851 . Even after the annexation of the Electorate of Hesse by Prussia in 1866, it remained in the district of Schlüchtern.

Territorial reform

On December 1, 1969, the previously independent municipality was incorporated into the town of Schlüchtern as part of the regional reform in Hesse , and in 1974 this came with the Herolz district to the Main-Kinzig district .
