history

middle Ages

The oldest surviving documentary mention of Cressenbach comes from the year 1167. At that time the Schlüchtern monastery owned the branch church and the tithe in the village. The village belonged to the Schlüchtern court (later: Amt Schlüchtern ), a fiefdom of the bishop of Würzburg . Initially owned by von Grumbach , the village was inherited by the von Trimberg lords in 1243 . The bailiwick of the village was granted to Dietrich von Erthal as a sub-loan until 1286 and this year it passed to von Hutten and Aldenberg . In 1364 the von Hutten sold their half of the Unterlehen to the Schlüchtern monastery. In 1377 the Lords of Hanau (from 1429: County Hanau ) received the Oberlehen in exchange for Bütthard Castle . When Hanau was divided in 1456, Kressenbach came to the County of Hanau-Munzenberg . In 1444 the Schlüchtern monastery was the village owner. In 1457 the monastery finally came under the patronage of the County of Hanau.

With the death of the last Hanau count, Johann Reinhard III. , Kressenbach fell in 1736 with the entire county of Hanau-Münzenberg to the Landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel , from which the Electorate of Hesse emerged in 1803 .

Modern times

During the Napoleonic period, Kressenbach was under French military administration from 1806, belonged to the Principality of Hanau from 1807 to 1810 and then from 1810 to 1813 to the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt , Department of Hanau . Then it fell back to the Electorate of Hesse. After the administrative reform of the Electorate of Hesse in 1821, under which the Electorate of Hesse was divided into four provinces and 22 districts, Kressenbach belonged to the district of Schlüchtern . In 1866 the electorate was annexed by Prussia after the Austro-Prussian War and became part of the federal state of Hesse after the Second World War . Kressenbach accordingly changed the administrations to which it belonged. At 31 December 1971 Kressbach was in the city Schlüchtern incorporated . With the Hessian regional reform , the district of Schlüchtern was dissolved in 1974 and Kressenbach has been in the Main-Kinzig district since then .
