District reforms in Germany until 1949 (excluding Bavaria and Prussia)
The article District reforms in Germany until 1949 covers the implementation of area reforms at district level, i.e. on the one hand the urban districts and urban districts and on the other hand the districts and districts up to the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany in May 1949 on the territory of the later Federal Republic without the Bavarian and (formerly) Prussian territories.
Counties or counties and other names
The following rules have been and still apply to the designations district and district :
- In the countries outside Prussia, different names were used, e.g. B .:
- Administrative authorities in Saxony
- District offices in Baden and Bavaria
- Upper offices in Württemberg
- From January 1, 1939, the uniform designation in the German Reich was with the exception of Prussia's district .
Independent cities or urban districts and other names
- In the countries outside of Prussia, different names were used, but the name of a city that was not a district has usually prevailed.
- In some countries, the name Stadtkreis was just a highlight within the district. The city concerned did not leave the district association. Nowadays, such cities have been given the designation large district town or the like.
