The Vöhl district was a district in the province of Upper Hesse in the Grand Duchy of Hesse and, after 1866, a district-like administrative district in the Prussian province of Hesse-Nassau . The former district area is now part of the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in Hesse .

history

prehistory

The district of Vöhl was added to the Biedenkopf district in 1832 . Because of its peripheral location, the government also ordered that it should "initially" continue to be administered separately: the previous district administrator was given the title of "district councilor" and the district remained effectively independent. This construct was lost in the March Revolution of 1848, when only administrative districts were established across the whole of the Grand Duchy as the middle level between the state government and the municipalities.

founding

As a product of the March Revolution, this territorial reform was reversed after the victory of the restorative forces in the reaction era in 1852. With regard to Vöhl, the consequence was drawn from the “half” district reform of 1832 and an independent “District Vöhl” was formed. He was by Kurhessisches separated area spatially by the Grand Duchy. The circle included the two exclaves Höringhausen and Eimelrod in the Principality of Waldeck .

1866 and the aftermath

As a result of the German War of 1866 , the Grand Duchy of Hesse had to cede the Biedenkopf and Vöhl districts to Prussia in the peace treaty of September 3, 1866 .

The district came to the administrative district of Kassel in the Prussian province of Hessen-Nassau on January 12, 1867 and initially received a special status within the Frankenberg district . The district official in Vöhl, who was subordinate to the district administrator in Frankenberg, held the title of bailiff (the Orb district, which later belonged to the Gelnhausen district, had a similar status ). With effect from April 1, 1886, the separate administrative district Vöhl was abolished ( list of districts in the province of Hessen-Nassau ). His communities were directly subordinate to the district administrator in Frankenberg.

structure

In 1852 the district had 6,097 inhabitants in 19 communities.
