Circle Wimpfen
The Wimpfen district was a district in the Grand Duchy of Hesse .
geography
The Wimpfen district was in the Starkenburg province of the Grand Duchy. The district, which was unusually small in terms of area and population, consisted of several Hessian exclaves south of the central state area, which were surrounded by the Grand Duchy of Baden . The county seat was Wimpfen . The former district area is now part of Baden-Württemberg .
history
prehistory
Since 1821, the administration of these exclaves was organized in the Wimpfen district. In 1832 there was a regional reform in which several district districts were combined into one district. Wimpfen was assigned to the Lindenfels district . Because of its peripheral location, the government also ordered that Wimpfen should "initially" continue to be administered separately: the previous district administrator was given the title of "district administrator" and the district remained effectively independent. This construct was lost in the March Revolution of 1848, when only administrative districts were established across the whole of the Grand Duchy as the middle level between the state government and the municipalities.
founding
As a product of the March Revolution, this territorial reform was reversed after the victory of the restorative forces in the reaction era in 1852. With regard to Wimpfen, the consequence was drawn from the "half" district reform of 1832 and an independent "Wimpfen district" was formed.
resolution
On July 1, 1874, the Wimpfen district was dissolved and incorporated into the Heppenheim district.
structure
In 1852 the Wimpfen district had 4046 inhabitants. It consisted of five separate Hessian exclaves:
- the current town of Bad Wimpfen with the two sub-towns of Wimpfen am Berg and Wimpfen in the valley, the village of Hohenstadt and the residential area Fleckinger Mühle ,
- the village of Helmhof with the Wimpfen forest, today part of Neckarbischofsheim ,
- the Finkenhof homestead , today part of Haßmersheim ,
- the uninhabited Zimmerhöferfeld, today part of Bad Rappenau and
- the Hessian share in the Hessian- Baden condominium Kürnbach , today a municipality in the Karlsruhe district .
