The pit cottage grove was an iron ore mine in the district of Herdorfer district Dermbach in district Altenkirchen in Rhineland-Palatinate .

It is also one of the geotopes of the Westerwald-Lahn-Taunus Geopark .

history

The Hüttenwäldchen mine was first mentioned on June 28, 1833. But ore was searched for in the Pingen mine area as early as 1559 . On January 19, 1858, the mining rights were reassigned, Spateisenstein and copper ore were mined . In 1905, 57 employees mined 5,448 t of iron ore and 556 t of copper ore. In 1910 the mine was closed.

In 1997 a 150 m long tunnel section was opened as a visitor mine.

Civil engineering

Civil engineering was carried out from around 1895. A blind shaft was sunk at 245 m. A total of six levels and two dies were set, the deepest level was 230 m. In front of the shaft there was already a die in the form of a small day shaft with a hand reel with a depth of 45 m. From 1858 a steam engine supported the dismantling work.
