After the government districts were dissolved on May 12, 1852, Rheinhessen was now divided into five districts, with the districts of Alzey, Bingen, Mainz and Worms forming the district of Oppenheim from the area of the peace courts districts of Oppenheim and Wörrstadt . The district structure of the Grand Duchy created at that time lasted for more than six decades.
