history

The first known mention can be found in the Lorsch Codex in a document dated February 27, 782 about the donation of one acre of land in the Cuningesheimer marca (Köngernheimer district).

Until 1794 Köngernheim was under the rule of the noble family Sickingen , until, like all areas on the left of the Rhine , much of France was given, which became final in the Peace of Lunéville in 1801. The community belonged to the French Republic (1798–1804) from 1798 to 1814 and then to the Napoleonic Empire (1804–1814). During this time, Köngernheim belongs to the Mairie Dalheim in the canton of Oppenheim , which was one of ten administrative units in the arrondissement of Mainz , which belonged to the Département du Mont-Tonnerre . In 1814, the Donnersberg department and thus also the Oppenheim canton were temporarily placed under the administration of the Central Rhine General Government .

Through Article 47 of the Vienna Congress Act on the division of territory, Köngernheim came to the Grand Duchy of Hesse and was incorporated into the province of Rheinhessen , which was formed from eleven cantons, in accordance with the ownership patent of July 8, 1816 . The community belonged to the Grand Duchy of Hesse until 1919 and to the People's State of Hesse until 1934 . On February 5, 1835, the eleven cantons were initially replaced by four districts , so that Köngernheim belongs to the Mainz district . This lasted until 1848, in the course of the March Revolution , the districts were dissolved on July 31, 1848 and Koengernheim became part of the new administrative district of Mainz , which first comprised the whole of Rheinhessen, then the northern part of Rheinhessen. Already in 1852 they returned to the division into circles. From May 12, 1852 to 1938, Köngernheim was part of the Oppenheim district , one of five districts into which the Rheinhessen province was divided.

As of August 30, 1946, Köngernheim is a municipality in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . Here Köngernheim first belongs to the district of Mainz and from 1969 to the merged district of Mainz-Bingen . In 1972 it became part of the newly created Nierstein-Oppenheim community , which merged in 2014 to form the Rhein-Selz community .
