Lörzweiler is a municipality in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Bodenheim .

geography

The wine-growing community is characterized in particular by its wines from the major areas of Mainz St. Alban and Niersteiner Gutes Domtal with its individual layers of Ölgild, Königstuhl and Hohberg. Lörzweiler borders on Bodenheim , Gau-Bischofsheim , Harxheim and Mommenheim . The Rhineland-Palatinate state capital Mainz is about 10 kilometers north of the municipality.

In the southern district the 175.8  m above sea level rises NHN high king's chair, also called the king's chair, on which Conrad II was supposedly elected king on September 8, 1024 .

The local mayor is Steffan Haub (CDU). In the runoff election on June 16, 2019, he narrowly prevailed with a share of 50.42% of the vote and is the successor to Michael Christ, who was no longer running.

Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms goes back to the barons of Hettersdorf , the former feudal lords of Lörzweiler, who inherited the Hund von Saulheim around 1700 .

The “Lörzweiler Königstuhl” observation tower was inaugurated to the south-east of the village in July 2015 and offers a good panoramic view of the area.

Regular events

  • The parish celebrates the parish festival annually on the weekend after Ascension Day .
  • From the first Friday in July the “Wine Festival at the Königstuhl” will be celebrated for four days.
  • Every year in mid-June, the court and garden festival takes place at the Dörrschuck winery .
  • Every year on the first weekend in September, the courtyard festival takes place in the Haub winery .

traffic

From 1896 to 1985 (in freight traffic until 1989) Lörzweiler was connected to the rail traffic of the now disused Bodenheim – Alzey railway via the Harxheim station. The train station, originally called "Harxheim (Reinh.)", Was renamed "Harxheim-Lörzweiler" on April 1, 1910.
