history
The place name probably goes back to the settlement of a Franconian named Wulfilo. In the world atlas of the geographer Gerhard Mercator from 1595 the place was recorded as WOLFZIM .
In 1844 an important gold find was made in the Wolfsheimer district from a prince's grave from the migration period. The gold find from Wolfsheim dates from the beginning of the 5th century and can now be seen in the Wiesbaden Museum in the Nassau antiquities collection.
A late Roman Nuppenglas , in the form of a kantharos , was found in 1934 when ditches were being dug in the corridor "In the hamlet". It is located in the Landesmuseum Mainz .
On May 15, 1950, Südwestfunk SWF (now Südwestrundfunk SWR ) put the Rhine transmitter near Wolfsheim into operation. The 150 m high mast was the tallest structure in Rheinhessen until it was blown up on February 19, 2013 .
Since 1972 Wolfsheim has been a member of the association of the then newly formed Verbandsgemeinde Sprendlingen-Gensingen, but it was not until April 16, 1974 that the municipality was incorporated from the Alzey-Worms district into the Mainz-Bingen district.
