The panorama from Weiler bei Bingen

Weiler bei Bingen is a municipality in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Rhein-Nahe Association , which has its administrative headquarters in Bingerbrück, a district of Bingen am Rhein .

geography

The wine village of Weiler bei Bingen is located between Koblenz and Bad Kreuznach, southeast of the Binger Forest and borders the city of Bingen in the east .

The community also includes the residential areas Am Rondell, Forsthaus Heiligkreuz, Forsthaus Lauschhütte, Honigberg, Jägerhaus, Jagdhaus Lendershof and the children's recreation home.

history

For the first time in 823 the name of the place is mentioned in a document of Emperor Ludwig the Pious . However, we owe the collecting and researching spirit of the late hamlet fellow citizen Heinrich Bell for the realization that human life has been stirring in the hamlet since prehistoric times. The Romans (52 BC to 405 AD) laid out a modern military and trade route on an ancient route that was already used by the Celts, connecting Mainz with Trier and passing by Weiler ( Ausoniusstrasse ). The remains of a Roman estate ( Villa Rustica ) have been uncovered since 1994 in the Bingen municipal forest, which is located in the hamlet of the hamlet (see Villa Rustica (hamlet near Bingen) ).

Weiler has always been very closely connected to Bingen from the earliest times , the Weilerer district was part of the "Binger Mark". The Archbishops and Electors of Mainz held local authority over the two communities. It passed to the Mainz Cathedral Chapter in 1438 and continued to exist until French revolutionary troops occupied the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 . After the Peace of Campo Formio in 1798, the Nahe became the border between the French departments of Donnersberg (Mont-Tonnerre) and Rhine-Mosel ( Rhin-et-Moselle ). The Congress of Vienna in 1815 assigned Weiler to the Kingdom of Prussia and in 1816 Bingen became part of the Grand Duchy of Hesse . Now the Nahe had become the state border. With the construction of the railway lines on the Rhine and Nahe, the hamlet of Rupertsberg gained in importance. It became independent in 1892 by a royal Prussian decree under the name Bingerbrück , spun off the hamlet and incorporated into the city of Bingen in 1969.

The first church in the village was mentioned in a document as early as 1128. The Catholic Church of St. Maria Magdalena now stands in its place. It was built in 1866 as a hall church in the Gothic style. It still dominates the panorama of the community of Weiler bei Bingen to this day.

The historical relationship between Weiler and Rupertsberg Monastery should also be mentioned . The Rupertsberger Hofgut of the monastery of St. Hildegard von Bingen was located at the junction of Hofstrasse and Bangertweg in Weiler.

The community was renamed on January 1, 1973 from Weiler bei Bingerbrück to Weiler bei Bingen.
