Hahnheim is a municipality in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Rhein-Selz community , which has its administrative headquarters in the city of Oppenheim .
geography
The wine village is located in Rheinhessen about 12 kilometers south of Mainz . The Selz flows to the south and east of Hahnheim . The community borders on Selzen to the east , other neighboring communities are Köngernheim , Sörgenloch , Undenheim and Zornheim .
Hahnheim also includes the Eberbacherhof, Sonnenhof and Wahlheimerhof residential areas .
history
Archaeological finds from the Bronze , Iron and Roman Ages indicate an early settlement.
Hahnhaim was first mentioned in a document on July 12, 764 in the Lorsch Codex as Hagenheim . The occasion was a gift from Williswinda , widow of Robert I , and her son, Count Cancor , to the Lorsch monastery . In the copy book of the Lorsch Codex, 13 donation deeds are noted for Hahnheim (deeds 1921–1932 and 1999).
Later the place became an imperial knighthood . From 1560 to the end of the 18th century, local lords were the Freiherren von Dienheim .
On March 18, 1945 Bad Kreuznach was handed over to the US troops without a fight. On March 19, 1945, however, the 5th US Infantry Division under Stafford LeRoy Irwin encountered bitter resistance from a German unit of the 7th Army , from two batteries of the 9th Flak Division , in Hahnheim. On March 21, 1945, units of the 3rd US Army , XII. US Army Corps , Nierstein am Rhein.

In the local elections on May 26, 2019, Werner Kalbfuß (SPD) was once again directly elected mayor with 71.46% of the vote . He is the successor to Sigrid Mangold-Wegner (SPD) , who held this office from 2004 to 2014.

In the area in the direction of Köngernheim , on the road that leads to the B 420, there is a Jewish cemetery that was laid out around 1884 .

In the district , several biotopes were created , especially on the Selz and on the former Alzey – Bodenheim railway line , the “Amiche” .

The community is crossed by the state road 432. It is 2 km south to the B 420 . The federal highways 60 and 63 can be reached by car in about 20 and 10 minutes respectively.
