Grolsheim is a municipality in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Sprendlingen-Gensingen , which has its administrative seat in the municipality of Sprendlingen .
geography
Grolsheim is located in Rheinhessen between Mainz and Bad Kreuznach an der Nahe . The Katharinen-Mühle residential area also belongs to Grolsheim .
history
The place was first mentioned in the year 772 as "Grandfesheim" in a deed of donation to the Lorsch monastery . Other early place names were "Graulfesheim" (782) and "Graolfesheim" (801).
At the end of the 16th century, the place had 36 houses.
From the 14th to the end of the 18th century, Grolsheim belonged to the Electoral Palatinate and was assigned to the Oberamt Stromberg . After the Left Bank of the Rhine was taken by French revolutionary troops (1794), the place belonged to the canton of Bingen in the Donnersberg department from 1798 to 1814 . On the basis of the resolutions made at the Congress of Vienna (1815), the region, including Grolsheim, was assigned to the Grand Duchy of Hesse and assigned to the Province of Rheinhessen in 1816.

Matthias Hang was elected as local mayor on May 26, 2019 with 63.77 percent of the vote. He replaced the previous mayor Heidi Hahn-Axt.
Economy and Infrastructure
- The Bingen / Grolsheim industrial park has its own motorway connection. As a result, the freight forwarders Rhenus and Kuehne + Nagel have settled here. K + N operates the central warehouse for Weber-Stephen Germany .
