history
Archaeological finds from the Bronze Age suggest a settlement that lasted around 1800 to 1000 BC. Goes back to BC. The continuous remains of a column capital from a Jupiter temple from Roman times .
The Franks settled around 500 , the place name "Uminisheim" goes back to the clan elder "Umin". The place in Wormsgau is first mentioned in writing in a deed of donation from 762, in which Egilolf transferred a vineyard in the “Huminsheimer Marca” to the Lorsch monastery .
At the beginning of the 11th century Eimsheim belonged to the diocese of Worms , which later ceded it to the Cistercian monastery " Weidas " near Dautenheim . In 1485 half of the village was handed over to the Palatinate Elector Philip "the Noble" , the other half of the village only fell to the Electoral Palatinate in 1551 under Philip's son Friedrich "the Wise" .
In 1780 the new Catholic Church was completed. A little later, Eimsheim fell under French administration, and Eimsheim citizens also took part in the Napoleonic campaigns . To commemorate this time, a so-called Napoleon stone was erected in 1852 as a veteran memorial in the old cemetery .
In a phase of heavy building activity between 1890 and 1906, the old school, the new school, the town hall and the Protestant church were built. The population was already around 600 at that time.
In 1982 Eimsheim won first prize in the competition “ Our village should be more beautiful ”.

coat of arms
Blazon : “In shields divided into black over blue, a growing, red-armored and crowned, golden lion above, a golden fountain basin with a silver fountain below. Behind it agolden crook, lying on the top left . " | |
Founding of the coat of arms: Eimsheim belonged to the Electoral Palatinate from 1565 until the Napoleonic period , hence the electoral Palatinate lion in the upper half of the coat of arms . The Catholic Church is consecrated to St. Pirminius . This saint therefore appears in the Eimsheim court seal, which can be proven in 1546.
A second court seal with the same coat of arms dates from 1769. On both seals the saint appears in full figure as a bishop with miter and with a crook in hand. Next to the saint you can see a small fountain basin with a water jet on the floor. This motif reminds us that, according to legend , St. Pirminius let a spring gush up with his bishop's staff, the water of which is said to have healed eyes and rheumatism sufferers . This is said to have happened on the island of Reichenau in Lake Constance - in addition to driving away poisonous snakes - on which he founded the famous monastery. The saint, who died in Hornbach near Zweibrücken - his last place of work - in 753, was one of the most important missionaries in southwest Germany; in the Middle Rhine region he rarely appears as a church patron . The fact that it is this for a church in Eimsheim is explained by the fact that the place formerly belonged to the Palatinate , where it often appears. Incidentally, springs have always gushed up on slopes and in many courtyards in Eimsheim. Until 1906, ten local wells supplied the population with water. |
