The entry reads: Hu (m) b (er) t (us) l (aicus) .V. sol (idos) d (e) Wint (er) heim et Richolfus mo (m) b (er) t (us) s (ancti) Alb (ani) (Humbert, layman, five shillings from Winternheim and Richolf, monk from St . However, the settlement history goes back much further. This is proven by archaeological finds from the Young Tertiary as well as ceramics from the Middle Bronze Age (burial mound bronze age), snake brooches from the Hallstatt period and settlement ceramics from the Latene period , which were also found in the area. Celtic and Roman finds as well as objects from the time of the Franks and the Merovingians bear witness to the continuous settlement of the place .
“Remains of foundation walls and numerous finds in the Villkeller corridor prove that Roman families settled here and maintained sanctuaries. A well stone by Mars Leucetius / Loucetius and a small metal plaque for the goddess Nemetona by Consul Vejento and his wife Attica from the time of the first century AD are considered particularly noteworthy finds. "
"The Franconian village was roughly in the same place as the one today, the name means 'home of Wintaro' (Old High German: one who turns - against enemies?)"
In the 12th century the place was owned by the Mainzer Oberstift , which was administered from Aschaffenburg ; In the oldest original document from (end of June) 1191, Archbishop Konrad I von Wittelsbach exchanges the village of Obernau (Oberenheim) near Aschaffenburg together with wineries from Hörstein for Winternheim. Klein-Winternheim came to the ore monastery of Mainz , to which it belonged until secularization . In a directory from 1590 Klein-Winternheim owned 45 hearths (houses / courtyards). In 1785, 372 people lived in 86 houses in Klein-Winternheim, of which 63 were husbands and 63 wives, 5 widowers, 20 widows, 97 sons, 118 daughters and 6 other residents . In June 1796 French troops occupied the place, they looted the stables and burned down houses. In 1816 Klein-Winternheim came to the Alzey district , in the province of Rheinhessen , in the Grand Duchy of Hesse , which in 1918 became the People's State of Hesse . After the Second World War , Klein-Winternheim became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone .
