On Wingertsweg
On Wingertsweg is the name for a compensation area of the local community of Klein-Winternheim in the Rhineland-Palatinate community of Nieder-Olm . The area of around 1.5 hectares was laid out in 2008 according to a concept of the regional local agenda with local bushes and trees as a species-rich, semi-open landscape. Despite its small size, the area should fulfill a stepping stone function in the heavily agricultural Rheinhessen , according to Irene Wellershoff , Chairwoman of the Local Agenda.
The renaturation has been awarded several prizes, the area is considered "very well developed" by biologists. Rare and protected animal species such as the Esparsette ram , the partridge and the garden dormouse have been identified. In addition to the strictly protected sand lizards already living on the area, further sand lizards were relocated in 2018 as part of a move from a newly designated building area.
The development of the area, successes and conception were regularly discussed in exhibitions and lectures.
