Muizon is a French commune with 2161 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Marne department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Reims and the canton of Fismes-Montagne de Reims (until 2015. Canton of Ville-en-Tardenois ).

In Germany the place became known through the book Return to Reims by Didier Eribon .

geography

The municipality is located about ten kilometers west of Reims on the left southern bank of the Vesle on the old Roman road from Reims to Paris. Neighboring municipalities are Trigny in the north, Châlons-sur-Vesle in the northeast, Thillois in the east, Gueux in the southeast, Rosnay in the southwest, Courcelles-Sapicourt in the west and Prouilly in the northwest.

history

The place was founded in the 7th century. In the 14th century, the de Muizon built a permanent house here, which was renovated in the 17th century after it was destroyed in the Hundred Years War . In 1944 it was destroyed and not rebuilt.

It was not until 1900 that the number of 250 inhabitants was exceeded, and by 1975 the number of 1000 inhabitants.

On October 5, 1914, the first air battle in history between German and French fighter pilots took place nearby.
