Courtagnon is a French commune with 63 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Marne department in the Grand Est region . Administratively it belongs to the Arrondissement of Reims and is part of the canton of Fismes-Montagne de Reims (until 2015: canton of Châtillon-sur-Marne ). The inhabitants are called courtaisant. Courtagnon was in the war zone of the First World War . In this context, it was awarded the Croix de guerre on May 30, 1921 . Mayor has been Valérie Cordebar since 2008.

geography

Courtagnon is about ten kilometers south or southwest of Reims in Champagne . Outlying municipalities are Sermiers in the east, Nanteuil-la-Forét in the southwest and Chamery in the north, clockwise. The landscape is hilly and largely forested. Viticulture dominates the unwooded areas. Courtagnon is located in the champagne growing area . The village is located in the middle of the Parc naturel régional de la Montagne de Reims , a regional nature park of around 53,300 hectares founded in 1976.

Population development

Courtagnon had its highest documented population immediately after the French Revolution in 1793 with 136 inhabitants. Over the next 180 years or so, the population fell steadily, until 1975 a minimum of only 17 people was reached in the village. Then there was an influx of new residents and so the number rose again within a relatively short time to 66 in 2006. In 2011 officially 54 people lived in the village.

Attractions

The village church L'Église de la Sainte Croix de Septembre is no longer used as a church. It is used by the administration of the regional park. There is also a former small manor house, the Château de Courtagnon.
