Chigny-les-Roses is a French commune with 365 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Marne department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Champagne-Ardenne ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Reims and the municipality of Grand Reims .
geography
Chigny-les-Roses is twelve kilometers south of the city of Reims at the foot of the Montagne de Reims in the Montagne de Reims Regional Nature Park of the same name . Chigny-les-Roses is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Ludes in the northeast and east, Ville-en-Selve in the south and Rilly-la-Montagne in the west.
history
High quality faiences were produced in Chigny-les-Roses between 1790 and the end of the 19th century .
At the request of Louise Pommery , President Émile Loubet - a rose lover - renamed the community from Chigny or Chigny-la-Montagne to Chigny-les-Roses in 1902 .

economy
The main occupation of the residents is viticulture. There are 175 winemakers in the municipality. The Chigny-les-Roses wine cooperative was founded in 1953. The three grape varieties Pinot Noir , Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay are cultivated in a 2,360 hectare part of the Montagne de Reims appellation , an appellation d'Origine Contrôlée . Some sites are classified as Premier Cru . The grapes are processed into champagne . In addition to the numerous winemakers, there is an agricultural business in the community that grows grain.
The A4 autoroute runs north of the municipality .
