In 1284 Savigny became part of the French kingdom together with the whole of Champagne.
In the castle Prin , on the banks of Ardre just south of Savigny resided in 1641 Cardinal Richelieu during the stay of Louis XIII. in Reims.
Savigny achieved nationwide fame with the first radio call to resistance against the German occupiers on May 21, 1940 by Charles de Gaulle from here. A memorial on a house opposite the church commemorates this appeal.
