Berru is a French commune with 574 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Marne department in the Grand Est region (before 2016: Champagne-Ardenne ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Reims and the canton of Bourgogne (until 2015: canton Bein-Nauroy ). The inhabitants are called berruyats .

geography

Berru is about nine kilometers east-northeast of the city center of Reims . Berru is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Caurel in the north, Lavannes in the north and northeast, Époye in the east, bein-Nauroy in the southeast, Nogent-l'Abbesse in the south, Cernay-lès-Reims in the west and southwest and Witry-lès-Reims in the Northwest.

Around two kilometers west of Berru there is a German military cemetery for around 17,500 killed in the First World War.

Trivia

The primate genus Berruvius , which was discovered here (in the so-called Cernay formation), is named after the place . It is assigned to the Paleocene and Eocene (58.7 and 55.8 million years before our time).
