Life

Because of a plant closure, Axel Schnell had to move with his parents as a young child from Lübeck to Letter - a suburb of Hanover. Here he also graduated from high school in 1975. In the same year he began studying German / Politics for a higher teaching post at the University of Hanover. In 1981 Axel Schnell passed the first state examination. From 1981 to 1983 he worked as a lecturer in adult education and as a freelance journalist. In 1983 he completed his studies with a Magister Artium.

From 1983 to 1990 Axel Schnell was a research assistant at the German Department (literary scholar) and led seminars. He has also written articles and columns for the Zeitgeist magazines " TransAtlantik " and "Pierrot". In 1993 he received his doctorate as a literary scholar on Brecht's first play » Baal «.

"This little book reads like a great archeology of evil," was the verdict of the 1995 Brecht Yearbook 20 in a review of this doctoral thesis.

In 1991, Axel Schnell began his career as a daily newspaper editor at Wolfsburger Allgemeine and in 1993 moved to the Neue Presse in Hanover within the Madsack Group . Here he mainly worked as a reporter and was responsible, among other things, for reporting on the Expo 2000 in Hanover.

In 2001, Axel Schnell switched to business as head of the Volkswagen (Group) press office in Hanover. He held this position until 2003. He then worked in all fields of public relations as a freelance author, mainly for DAX 30 companies and leading politicians.

Today the passionate scuba diver, whose novels are always about evil, lives with his family on a rune mountain.

It goes with the novels that Axel Schnell also likes to invite you to readings in rather unusual places such as ruins, old cemeteries or the former detention cell of a regional court from the Middle Ages.

In addition, he could be heard with readings from his books in restaurants such as the Hanoverian cult pubs “Plumecke” and “Max Walloschke”. But Axel Schnell also gladly accepted invitations to readings in the living room and in student shared apartments. Other locations were studios and galleries as well as a travel agency and a dental practice.

Axel Schnell is a member of “Das Syndikat”, the association of around 750 German-speaking crime writers and authors, and of the “Bund Deutscher Kriminalbeamter” (BDK).
