history

Allegedly in the Thirty Years' War mercenaries beat their weapons against Wulfes well to be invulnerable.

In 1178 Letter was first mentioned in a document, in 1265 for the first time in the current spelling "Letter". In 1850 land consolidation was carried out in the area. At the end of the 19th century, Letter was one of the smallest villages within the area of what would later become the town of Seelze (500 inhabitants in 1890); today, with just under 11,000 people, it is the largest district. The Seelze marshalling yard, which went into operation in 1909 , brought a particularly strong growth spurt; especially industrial settlements in Seelze and Stöcken (beyond the Leine ). Conveniently located and close to the big city, Letter was able to develop as a residential location. Letter was an independent municipality and became the largest village in the municipality of Seelze on March 1, 1974 (from March 1, 1977 the town of Seelze).
