The Georg-Büchner-Gymnasium is a high school in the city of Seelze , Hanover region in Lower Saxony . The school is named after the Hessian naturalist, writer and revolutionary Georg Büchner (1813–1837).

A total of around 1,400 students are taught by around 90 teachers at the grammar school.

Today the school consists of three building parts, an old building which serves as the main building, a south wing (the building of the former Geschwister-Scholl-Schule ) and the new building completed in August 2001. The extension of 1,700 square meters, which began on July 29, 2000, cost a little more than 4.6 million euros. It was handed over to the teachers and students on August 22, 2001 by the then Finance Minister Heinrich Aller , among others . The available sports area consists of various gymnastics and gymnastics halls, a large sports stadium with a synthetic running track, two large adjacent lawns, a plastic-covered handball field, a weight room and a beach volleyball and handball facility. In the eleventh grade, the students take part in a vocational training seminar. Environmental school in Europe

In October 2003, the school first applied for admission to the international project “ Environmental Schools in Europe ”. 13,000 schools in 31 countries are now taking part in the project. Participating schools have to qualify within two years in two self-selected areas of activity within the framework of environmental education, one project must be selected from the topics of waste, water and energy. As part of this call for tenders, the Georg-Büchner-Gymnasium participated with the projects “Creation of a waste avoidance and waste separation system” and “Redesign of the school grounds under the heading: School to feel good”. The jury was so convinced of the activities and measures in this matter that had been completed by June 2005 that they recommended the grammar school for both international and national awards. The Georg-Büchner-Gymnasium has been able to designate itself as the International Agenda 21 School since September 28, 2005 , confirmed by certificates and a flag.

On September 28, 2005, the Georg-Büchner-Gymnasium Seelze was named an environmental school in Europe . In 2007 it received this award again.

RoboCup

In the “Rescue” discipline, teams from the Georg Büchner Gymnasium became world champions at the Robocup in 2007 ( Atlanta ), 2009 ( Graz ) and 2012 ( Mexico ). In 2008 in Suzhou , 2010 in Singapore , 2011 in Istanbul and 2013 in Eindhoven third places were achieved. In the “Super Team” discipline, further first placements have been achieved in recent years.

The Association of Friends of the Georg-Büchner-Gymnasium Seelze, e. V. is an association of students, teachers and parents. It is his job to actively support the work of this school with ideal and material help. The funding should reach as many different subject areas of school work as possible.
