Chapel from 1508

The historical traces of Gümmer can be traced back to the Bronze Age . Excavations in the nearby Gümmerwald in 1975 and on the highest elevation of the village, the “Krähenberg”, in 2003 yielded insights into the way of life of the first settlers.

Gümmer was first mentioned as "gummere" in the 12th century. The oldest building in the village is a late Gothic chapel . Gümmer was an independent municipality in order to be integrated on March 1, 1974 on the occasion of the municipal reform as a district in the newly created larger municipality and later town of Seelze.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Gümmer was enlarged by a new building area in the middle of the town. Before that, this area was used as arable land. There is a large field near the train station that divides the place and will be built on in the future.
