Lathwehren is a village and southwestern district of Seelze in the Hanover region of Lower Saxony in Germany .

geography

Lathwehren is located in the Calenberger Land a little north-northeast of the Stemmer Berg . Direct neighbors are Kirchwehren in the east, the Barsinghausen districts of Göxe and Stemmen in the south and Barrigsen and Ostermunzel in the west - also part of Barsinghausen . A little to the south is the confluence of the Kirchwehrener Landwehr and Haferriede to Möseke , which flows westward into the Südaue . The manor Dunau is just under a kilometer southeast of Lathwehren and has belonged to the village since 1929 .

history

Lathwehren was first mentioned in a document in 1315 (Latwegerde), whereby Lath- is the Germanic word for "swamp, moist, morass". In 1689 around 200 people lived on 23 farms. The number of inhabitants has more than doubled to date, many new houses have been built and some old farmhouses still exist.

Lathwehren became one of the eleven localities of the large community of Seelze on March 1, 1974 as part of the Lower Saxony administrative and territorial reform. On March 1, 1977, Seelze was elevated to the status of a city, making the place a district.

religion

There is no church in Lathwehren, just a cemetery chapel built in 1968. Lathwehren belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Trinity Church Parish Kirchwehren and the Catholic Parish Hl. Trinity in Seelze . From 1969 to 1989 there was the Catholic church house St. Antonius in Lathwehren .

Culture and sights

  • The Dunau manor was first mentioned in 1560, but it is much older. During this time the property passed as a fiefdom of the Guelph Dukes from Erich von Goltern to Ernst von Alten and has remained in the family's possession to this day. The independent manor district of Dunau was incorporated into Lathwehren in 1929.
  • The Galerieholländermühle replaced the previously burnt down water mill of the Dunau estate, on whose foundations it was built, around 1851/52 .
