Ostermunzel is a district of Barsinghausen and is located in the Calenberger Land in the Hanover region .

geography

Ostermunzel is 15 km from Hanover , 10 km from Deister and 15 km from Steinhuder Meer .

history

The place Ostermunzel is first mentioned in 1221 as "Hostermunsle". Presumably it is a relocation of today's neighboring Groß Munzel . The place initially consisted only of half and quarter meierhöfe . The history of the village shows no feudal lords or lords. In the early days of the village this was still called the Easter coin loh .

On March 1, 1974, Ostermunzel was incorporated into the town of Barsinghausen.

In 2013 a farmer discovered the Koloss von Ostermunzel boulder north of the town while plowing. This is a gneiss that was transported from Scandinavia to its place of discovery during the Saale Ice Age around 200,000 to 250,000 years ago .

coat of arms

The design of the coat of arms of Ostermunzel comes from the heraldist and graphic artist Alfred Brecht , born in Gadenstedt and later living in Hanover , who has already designed the coats of arms of Aligse , Bantorf , Barrigsen and many other places in the Hanover district. The approval of the coat of arms was granted on August 25, 1960 by the district president in Hanover.

Coat of arms of Ostermunzel
Blazon : Shield half split and divided ; Above in red and silver a rafter eachin mixed colors, below in gold a blue horseshoe . "
Justification for the coat of arms: The two rafters in mixed up colors reflect the letter "M" for Munzel in the place name. The horseshoe in the coat of arms expresses the independence of landlords and feudal lords, because the place was brought to bloom by the energy of the farmers working according to Meierrecht, who have been replaced since the middle of the 19th century, when the gradient, burdens and tithes were replaced , inherited their farms as property. The rafters can be found as a reference to the coat of arms of the neighboring town of Groß Munzel .
