About this picture
Location of Gadenstedt in Ilsede

Gadenstedt is a part of the municipality of Ilsede in the district of Peine ( Lower Saxony ).

history

Ceramic finds indicate that the village of Gadenstedt was already settled in the pre-Roman Iron Age (700 BC).

Gadenstedt was mentioned in a document for the first time in 822. The document is a deed of donation by means of which the Junkersdorf "Gudianstede" is transferred to the Corvey monastery by the noble farm owner Osdac . The village is the ancestral seat of the von Gadenstedt family , a noble family from the 12th century (formerly belonging to the prehistoric nobility ). The name is derived from the Old High German " von Goddenstede " (= from good place). The manor can be proven from the year 1126.

At the beginning of the 17th century, a series of witch trials took place in Gadenstedt.

On February 1, 1971, Gadenstedt was combined with the previously independent communities of Adenstedt , Groß Lafferde , Münstedt and Oberg to form the community of Lahstedt .

On July 10, 2014, the members of the municipal council decided to merge the municipalities of Lahstedt and Ilsede . The merger of the municipalities was implemented on January 1, 2015.

Culture and sights

  • On the grounds of the Gadenstedt manor , Wilhelm von Gadenstedt built the manor house in 1838 as a right-angled half-timbered complex.
  • The St. Andreas Church was probably built at the end of the 12th century. The tower with the 1.30 m thick walls could have served as a defense and escape tower.
  • The Bolzberg near Gadenstedt has been a landscape protection area since 1970 .
