history

The former town hall of Lahstedt in the Gadenstedt district

On February 1, 1971, as part of the regional reform in Lower Saxony, the until then independent municipalities Adenstedt, Gadenstedt, Groß Lafferde, Münstedt and Oberg were combined to form the new unified municipality Lahstedt.

The name " Lah " was the inspiration behind the neutral name . It means a valley or clearing in the forest and also stands for forest. The place name Lafferde is also derived from it. There is a "Lah" and a "Lahstraße" in the village of Adenstedt, and a "Lahberg" in the village of Oberg (110 m above sea level ). The ending " stedt " is included in the place names Adenstedt, Gadenstedt and Münstedt.

On July 10, 2014, the members of the municipal council decided to merge the municipalities of Lahstedt and Ilsede. On December 15, 2014, the Lower Saxony state parliament confirmed the implementation of the merger on January 1, 2015. Lahstedt was dissolved when it became part of the Ilsede community.
