The onshore pond Groß Bülten-Adenstedt was created from the former sand pit Adenstedt. Today it is a 57 hectare pond landscape east of the village of Adenstedt in the municipality of Ilsede, south of the village of Groß Bülten in the district of Peine , Lower Saxony .
Emergence
The water surface was created between 1920 and 1956 through the extraction of sand by a sand extraction plant for the Bülten-Adenstedt iron ore mine . The extraction volume was 10.5 million cubic meters over an area of 550,000 square meters. This created a large pit with a boundary of 2,300 meters at a depth of 30 meters.
Between 1964 and 1979, sludge from the processing of the Lengede iron ore mine was washed in. The pit became a collection and settling basin for muddy pit water. The dispensing volume was 7 million cubic meters. After removing the 13.5 kilometer long supply line, a residual cavity of 3.5 million cubic meters remained. The sedimentation of the mineral particles in the water reduced the water depth, which led to the name on land pond.
In 1982 a local recreation area was established by the steel works Peine-Salzgitter (today: Salzgitter AG ) and the Lahwald interest group Adenstedt. Siltation zones with shallow water areas and reed areas had formed on the banks of the pond. The site is designated as a nature reserve (→ Groß Bülten-Adenstedt landing pond ). There are opportunities to observe rare water birds and take long walks.
