Wolfgang Marzahn

Wolfgang Marzahn (born April 1, 1911 in Zinzelitz , Lauenburg district in Pomerania , † March 1988 ) was a German Protestant pastor and author . After the Second World War he was committed to the care and cohesion of the evangelical expellees , especially those from Pomerania .

Life

Marzahn, the son of a pastor, attended Dietrich Bonhoeffer's seminary as a follower of the Confessing Church in the 1930s , but was then ordained by the old Prussian regional church . Together with other theology students, he was involved in the youth movement-reformed association Rüdiger von Bechelaren ( Tübingen ). In 1939 he became assistant preacher in Greifenberg , then he received the pastor's position in Zettin in the Rummelsburg district , but was soon drafted into the armed forces.

After the Second World War, when Western Pomerania and thus also Zettin came to Poland, Marzahn worked in the regional church of Hanover . In the 1950s he was pastor in Gadenstedt in the Peine district , and then from the early 1960s at the Michaeliskirche Hildesheim . He lived in Hildesheim even after his retirement. In December 1986 he suffered a stroke from which he did not recover until his death in March 1988.

Marzahn committed himself to the care and cohesion of the evangelical expellees , especially those from Pomerania . He held Eastern services in Hanover and other cities in Lower Saxony. From 1971 to 1981 he was secretary, from 1981 to 1987 chairman of the Convention of Protestant Congregations from Pomerania . From 1978 to 1986 he was the editor of the Pomeranian Homeland Church , a monthly supplement to the Pomeranian newspaper . As an author, he also dealt with Christian topics from the history of Pomerania . He was also a talented draftsman.
