Location of Ölsburg in Ilsede

Ölsburg is a district of the municipality of Ilsede in the district of Peine , Lower Saxony, located close to the center . Together with the districts of Groß Bülten and Groß Ilsede, it forms the core of the community.

history

Ölsburg, as one of the oldest settlements in the valley of the Fuhse , is first mentioned in 1003 and was an administrative center of the Franconian emperors . In February 2019, archaeological evidence of the castle stalls of the oil castle that gave the village its name was provided between the streets An der Fuhse and Kirchstrasse and Burgstrasse . The Ölsburg was converted into a canon monastery by his widow around 1002/1003 after the death of Count Altmann von Ölsburg .

Until 1941, as part of the Vechelde office, the place was an exclave of the state of Braunschweig , the former Duchy of Braunschweig , and was therefore often the subject of disputes between the Braunschweig dukes and bishops of the Diocese of Hildesheim from the Middle Ages to the early modern period .

With the founding of the Ilseder Hütte in 1858 and the subsequent blast furnace construction, the region's industrial upheaval began.

In the years 1900 to 1928 the Wilhelmshall-Ölsburg potash plant was mining for potash salts . In the years 1931 to 1932 attempts were made to extract oil with moderate success . Between 1935 and 1936, the mine filled up unnoticed by the influx of water. In 1941, during the reorganization of the borders of the Free States of Braunschweig and Prussia , as part of the so-called Salzgitter Act , Ölsburg moved from the Braunschweig district to the Peine district.

On February 1, 1971, Ölsburg merged with the surrounding towns to form the community of Ilsede.

In 2015 the municipalities of Lahstedt and Ilsede were merged to form the new municipality of Ilsede. For the first time, Ölsburg received a local council that can now also represent the interests of Ölsburg in political life.

Neuölsburg

Neuölsburg (or Neu Ölsburg ) was a workers' settlement for employees of the Ilseder Hütte and the associated mines that was built in 1875 . The settlement in the north of the old village center was an independent municipality with its own administration until 1964. Today the place name Neuölsburg no longer exists as an official part of the community of Ilsede.
