Sedges in the Bollsee

The nature reserve is located in the natural area of the central Weser valley. The Bollsee as a remnant of a former loop of the river Weser forms the southern border of the area. Extensive reed beds and large sedges as well as adjacent alder forests characterize this part of the forge quarry.

To the north, pastures and meadows connect. The open lowland landscape is enriched by various small bodies of water, blanks , fallow land and reed beds. Two small brooks, the Rottbach and the Renngraben, which runs along the eastern border of the area and which also represents the state border with Lower Saxony, enrich the biotope as flowing waters. Due to its natural location in the Weser lowlands, the area is of particular importance for rare and endangered waterbirds, meadow birds and songbirds as well as for numerous endangered plant species typical of the location. Several breeding bird species on the NRW Red List, such as B. the little grebe or the reed warbler , appear here.
