Egestorf ( Low German Estbod ) is a district of the town of Barsinghausen in the Hanover region in Lower Saxony .

geography

Egestorf is located directly on the northern edge of the Deister , bordered to the south by the district Wennigser Mark the municipality Wennigsen . To the west, Egestorf merges into the Barsinghausen district of Kirchdorf . To the northeast is the Langreder district .

history

One of the two war memorials in Egestorf

Egestorf emerged from the three villages Hedestorp, Ammerke and Helmeringehusen . The Ammerke parcel still exists today - Helmeringehusen as a large village already had its own chapel and a Catholic chaplain and was located in the Helmerfeld area - today's Geibelstrasse. The three places were completely devastated during the Hildesheim collegiate feud (1519 to 1523). Hedestorpe and Helmeringehusen are first mentioned in a document from Pope Innocent III. to Barsinghausen Monastery in 1216, where the delivery of the tithe to Barsinghausen Monastery was determined. In 1966 there was a celebration of the 750th anniversary of the then still independent community.

Thirty Years' War

The war, which ended in 1648, did not leave the settlement unaffected: only 39 families still lived there; until 1654, however, 15 families had moved in again.

Coal mining

In the middle of the 19th century the mining of hard coal began in the area of the Deister elevation "Hohe Warte" south of Egestorf . A whole series of tunnels in the Egestorf area was built as part of the hard coal mining in the Deister .

Several half-timbered buildings were erected in the “Hohe Warte” area near the Nienstedter Pass . After the cessation of coal mining around 1935, these buildings served as camps for Serb prisoners of war from 1940 . From 1947 to 1989 the children's home Hohe Warte of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO) was located there . Thereafter, the city of Barsinghausen used the houses until 1994 as accommodation for asylum seekers and a caretaker's apartment. Permanent use as a riding stables (from 1997 to 2003) failed because a demolition order was issued. In December 2007 the now partially dilapidated buildings were demolished. The AWO area is located in a landscape protection area and is being renatured again .

Barsinghausen city

The spatial connection of Egestorf with Kirchdorf and Barsinghausen led in 1968 to the first communal amalgamation of the three places under the name Barsinghausen. As a result, many street names in Barsinghausen had to be changed twice. So was z. B. from Bahnhofstrasse in Egestorf to Wennigser Strasse. Since Barsinghausen was granted city rights in 1969, Egestorf has been the second largest district of Barsinghausen in terms of population.

City Councilor and Mayor

Egestorf is represented at the municipal level by the Barsinghausen City Council.

coat of arms

The design of the municipal coat of arms of Egestorf comes from the heraldist and graphic artist Alfred Brecht , who designed all coats of arms in the Hanover region. The approval of the coat of arms was granted on November 1, 1962 by the district president in Hanover.

Coat of arms of Egestorf
Blazon : " Gold  : Green divided ,three green spruces growing out of the division above, a golden tree trunk below, crossed with a silver tree saw with golden handles."
Justification of the coat of arms: The symbolic content of the three spruce trees in the coat of arms of Egestorf shows the memory of the three formerly independent places that first appeared in documents as Anmarki , Helmerchingehusen and Hesdesdorpe . The lower part of the coat of arms symbolizes the location of the village on the edge of the Deister with its own forest and the opportunities it offers.

Economy and Infrastructure

Egestorf has been connected to Hanover by the Deister Railway since 1872 . After a short period of operation with diesel locomotives in the mid-1960s, train traffic has been electric since 1969 - the German Federal Railroad stopped transporting general cargo in the early 1970s. In the run-up to the EXPO 2000 in Hanover, the platform systems were relocated from the old building to the east and at the same time expanded to meet the needs of the S-Bahn . The Egestorf (Deister) train station is located directly on the edge of the forest and is also a transfer point for several bus routes.

At the end of the 19th century the tramway Hannover AG (from 1921: üstra ) opened tram line 10, which in 1898 initially ran from Hanover via Empelde , Benthe to Gehrden , the following year was extended via Leveste , Langreder , Egestorf to Barsinghausen and up 1953 also served for the transport of goods (potatoes / grain / beets / stones / coal). Passenger transport had already been replaced by the O 10 bus route in 1952. Electric power came to the town by tram - the power supply for the district of Hanover  - Egestorf / Deister belonged to the district of Linden until 1932  - was not completed until 1914. (see also: History of the tram in Hanover )

The Nienstedter Straße in Egestorf runs as state road  401 through the Nienstedter Pass (276.6 m above sea level ) over the Deister towards Nienstedt and from there to Eimbeckhausen . It is the only road connection over the Deister ridge.
