Fritz Ahrberg (born May 18, 1866 in Egestorf (Deister) , † April 1, 1959 in Hanover ) was a German entrepreneur and founder of the Fritz Ahrberg sausage factory .

Life

As a trained butcher, Ahrberg opened a butcher shop in Linden in 1896 . The business was doing well, so he was soon able to expand. In 1912 he founded the Fritz Ahrberg sausage factory in Deisterstraße and operated several branches in Hanover and the surrounding area. The Ahrberg company quickly recovered from the aftermath of the Second World War, in which part of the factory buildings were destroyed in the air raids on Hanover . It increased the number of branches, which were now also located in other cities in Lower Saxony, to around 50. Due to their quality, the meat and sausage products sold well throughout Germany. At the height of the company's history, the company had over 1,200 employees.

Fritz Ahrberg, who in addition to his entrepreneurial activity also campaigned for the promotion of shooting and the arts, has been honored several times for his achievements. In the 1950s, Fritz Ahrberg financed the construction of a gymnasium that bears his name for the elementary school in his native Egestorf . He died shortly before his 93rd birthday and was buried in the Ricklingen city cemetery.

After his death, the company ran into financial difficulties and was sold to the Saarland company Höll Feine Fleisch- und Wurstwaren GmbH in Saarbrücken in 1991 . An independent company still operates in Hanover-Linden under the name Fritz Ahrberg Handelsgesellschaft mbH . In 2001 the Landschlachterei Gramann GmbH from Pattensen near Hanover took over the Ahrberg rights and sells its products worldwide under the name Ahrberg. A street in Linden-Süd next to the former factory site was renamed Ahrbergstraße in 1975. The factory buildings have been converted into a residential and business district under the name Ahrbergviertel .

The Fritz Ahrberg Foundation is active in food research.
