geography

The location of Dunau consists of the manor named Dunau and other buildings on the banks of the Haferriede southeast of the Seelz district of Lathwehren.

history

A manor, from which today's Gut Dunau could have emerged, is mentioned for the first time in a fiefdom register of the dukes Otto and Wilhelm von Braunschweig-Lüneburg from the years 1330 to 1352. At that time Stacius von Reden had the village of Esedinghausen , depending on the source also Esedingherhusen or Esedinghehusen with synem gude as a fief . From the year 1401, the existence of the manor owned by the Lords of Goltern is documented.

In the period that followed, the village of Esedinghausen became desolate . It is unclear whether the estate shared this fate, as a document on the area was only available again from 1558 when the Dunau estate was enfeoffed to Ernst von Alten .

The estate remained as a fiefdom in the possession of changing branches of the family of the descendants of Ernst von Altens, but was managed by tenants several times for decades.

In 1850 the manor was all modified . In 2015, it had been in the family for 14 generations.

The independent manor district of Dunau was abolished in 1929 and Dunau part of the municipality of Lathwehren. This has been part of Seelze since 1974.

buildings

In 1712, a watermill was built on the north-west corner of the estate at Haferriede. This burned down in 1851. As a replacement, a gallery dutch was built on the foundations and the mill pond was filled in. The mill was used to crush grain for 100 years and was then converted into an apartment. Like the buildings of the manor, it is a listed building .

The north wing of the manor house, which today serves as the main house, was built before 1718. The south wing of the building and the bell tower were demolished as dilapidated around 1860.

In 1874/75 a cemetery was created on the estate, which replaced the family's hereditary burial in the tower of the Church of the Trinity in Kirchwehr , which was used until 1858 .

In the late 19th century, the moats surrounding the estate were filled in and most of the old farm buildings were removed.

In the north of the manor, the tithe barn was preserved from the beginning of the 18th century. The farm's stables and silos were built in the 20th century.

traffic

The buildings of the local situation extend along the only street Auf der Dunau . This crosses the state road L 390, which separates the estate and windmill from the other residential buildings.
