Dedensen is a village with around 2,200 inhabitants, which is the westernmost part of the city of Seelze in the Hanover region of Lower Saxony .

history

The oldest known written mention of Deden is not limited to one year, it comes from the period 1205 to 1234. Count Burchard von Oldenburg from the noble family von Hallermunt, who lived in the Deister area, sold the Schinna monastery (on the Weser river, founded by Hallermunts in 1148) Stolzenau) two Curiae (larger courtyards) in Dedensen. A resident (Brant) is mentioned by name for the first time in a document from 1290. Wilfried Sasse, author of the Dedenser Chronicle, also assumes that there was a family of the lower nobility here at that time, who called themselves von Dedensen . He cites documentary evidence from the late 13th to the early 15th century.

On March 1, 1974, Dedensen was incorporated into the community of Seelze.

coat of arms

Blazon : "A silver main bar in green, covered with three green linden leaves, including a silver St. Andrew's cross."

The coat of arms is dominated by a St. Andrew's cross, the typical "traffic sign" in heraldry. The heraldist derives this from the many major traffic routes that touch Dedensen, cut through its boundary and put their stamp on the place: the railroad, the Mittelland Canal , the Autobahn 2 , the federal road 441 , and everything crosses at various points by means of a multitude of bridges. The three linden leaves in the shield head are reminiscent of the 500-year-old Dedenser village linden tree, which is a protected natural monument.

The coat of arms was designed in 1979 by the heraldist Alfred Brecht.

Culture and sights

  • The local church was built by Conrad Wilhelm Hase in 1897 in a neo-Gothic style. He also used parts of the old, dilapidated church for this. The base of the church consists of ashlar blocks from the old building.
  • An almost 500 year old linden tree is a protected natural monument in the old village center .
  • In front of the old linden tree, the local heritage association restored a historic milk ramp in 2000, which indicates the village-like character of the old district.
  • The single full-day elementary school in the old village is supported by the Dedensen sports club and is supported by a large amount of volunteer work.
