From around 1900, Catholics began to settle in greater numbers again in Seelze , which has been Evangelical Lutheran since the Reformation . This was triggered by the increased demand for labor, initially in agriculture, but soon also in the Riedel-de Haën chemical plant, which was built from 1902 , and in the marshalling yard built from 1906 to 1909 . The construction of the Mittelland Canal also brought more workers to the Seelze area from around 1910. The Catholics in Seelze initially belonged to the “ St. Benno ” congregation in Hanover .

The church building site was acquired as early as 1908. In June 1910, the first Holy Mass in Seelze after the Reformation took place in the hall of the “Alter Krug” restaurant . In 1911 an emergency church was set up first, it was located in a former carpenter's workshop on Südstrasse.

The cornerstone of the church was laid on April 20, 1913, when around 500 Catholics lived in the Seelze area. Already on September 28, 1913, followed consecration of the church by Bishop Adolf Bertram .

During the Second World War , the church was damaged by bombs, which also destroyed the bell and the first organ installed in 1940 . In 1944, temporarily evacuees from the Catholic Rhineland came to Seelze. In autumn 1945, Karl Hildebrandt († 1982), the first priest, settled in Seelze, until then the church of “St. Benno ”. In the post-war period, the number of Catholics in Seelze increased significantly due to the influx of refugees and displaced persons from the eastern regions of the German Empire . In 1947 two steel bells were hung in the attic of the church. On December 1, 1954, the parish (Kuratiegemeinde) Seelze was established, on January 1, 1962 it was raised to a parish. The topping-out ceremony for the extension took place in October 1969, as the church had become too small for the larger congregation. In 1970 the extension was completed, which significantly increased the capacity of the church. The two bells have now been placed in a low bell house for safety reasons. In the meantime, guest workers also came to the parish, and from the 1980s also repatriates and ethnic repatriates . In 1995 the foundation stone for today's bell tower was laid next to the church, and its completion followed in 1996.
