The St. Matthias Church was the Catholic church in Groß Munzel , a district of Barsinghausen in the Hanover region in Lower Saxony . Most recently she belonged to the then Dean's Office of Hanover-West in the Diocese of Hildesheim . The church was named after the apostle Matthias and was located at 40 Spielburg . Today the nearest Catholic church is ten kilometers away in Barsinghausen.

The foundation stone of the church was laid on September 2, 1950; it was built according to plans by the architect Filipschak at a height of 56 meters above sea level . On March 18 or 28, 1951, they were benedicted by Bishop Joseph Godehard Machens . On January 1, 1967, St. Matthias was elevated to an independent parish . Around 1990 St. Matthias was an independent parish , at that time the church house St. Antonius in Lathwehren also belonged to it as a branch church . St. Matthias later belonged to the Barsinghausen pastoral care unit .

The church's last service was in June or July 1999, and it was closed that year. The building was sold and is used profanely today.
