The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Reims and the canton of Fismes-Montagne de Reims (until 2015 the canton of Fismes ).

Châlons-sur-Vesle is located about eleven kilometers west-northwest of the city center of Reims on Vesle , which borders the municipality in the south. Châlons-sur-Vesle is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Chenay in the north, Merfy in the east and northeast, Champigny in the southeast, Thillois in the Spden and southeast, Muizon in the south and southwest and Trigny in the west and northwest.
