Bubenheim is a municipality in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Gau-Algesheim community .

geography

The wine village is situated in the conservation area Selztal with the nature reserves Talberg, Flößrich / Gänsklauer and Binger meadow. Bubenheim to include the residential places Bubenheimer mill house Ludwig, Lindenhof and some relocated farms.

history

From the 5th century the Ingelheim area was settled by the Franks . Bubenheim is first mentioned as "Bubinheim" (= home of the Buobo) in 766 in a Lorsch document . The region with the main town Ingelheim was later known as Ingelheimer Reich, from the 14th century onwards as Ingelheimer Grund . At this time Bubenheim had the status of an imperial village and had 2 village gates and a fortification. In 1375 Bubenheim fell with the entire Ingelheimer Grund as pledge to the Electoral Palatinate and became part of the Oberamt Oppenheim. In 1792/93 and from 1797 Bubenheim was occupied by the French. The place was then assigned to the canton of Oberingelheim ( Donnersberg department ) in 1798 . After the collapse of Napoleonic rule and the reorganizations in the Congress of Vienna , Bubenheim became part of the Grand Duchy of Hesse-Darmstadt in 1816 . In 1835 Bubenheim was assigned to the Bingen district . Bubenheim has belonged to the newly founded federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 and to the Mainz-Bingen district since 1969 .

Population development

The number of inhabitants was between 500 and 550 in the last 150 years. In the last 10 years there has been a continuous increase to around 900 inhabitants.

Municipal council

The municipal council in Bubenheim consists of twelve council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Siegbert Felzer became mayor of Bubenheim in July 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for another five years with a share of the vote of 83.99%.

Felzer's predecessor Ernst Wilhelm Saala had held the office for 30 years.

Bubenheim has a Protestant and a Catholic church. Both are located near the village square.

Clubs in the community are the gymnastics club TV 1898 Bubenheim, the table tennis club TTC Bubenheim, the choral club 1879 Bubenheim with the branch Weedies Soundtrain.

Regular events

The Bubenheimer Curb always takes place on the last weekend in June.

Economy and Infrastructure

Bubenheim is best known for its viticulture in the Kallenberg and Honigberg sites. In addition to wine, asparagus and fruit growing are the main sources of income. The close proximity to Ingelheim (Boehringer), Mainz (ZDF, Schott) and the Rhine-Main area makes Bubenheim a popular place to sleep and weekend for many commuters.

The place is crossed by the district road  16. The federal highways 60 and 63 can be reached by car in 10 to 20 minutes.

Personalities

Honorary citizen

  • Walter Zoth (1935 / 36–2016), entrepreneur and patron, was made an honorary citizen for his sponsorship of Bubenheim. The Walter Zoth Hut, located in the vineyards on the edge of the Talberg nature reserve, is named after him.
  • Ernst Wilhelm Saala (* 1950), local mayor from 1984 to 2014, was honored in October 2014 for his services to the further development of the place.
