Dorn-Dürkheim is a municipality in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Rhein-Selz community , which has its administrative headquarters in the city of Oppenheim .
Geographical location
Dorn-Dürkheim is located between Mainz and Worms , in the heart of Rheinhessen .
history
In 767 Dorn-Dürkheim was mentioned for the first time as a document from the Lorsch Monastery . The place belonged from the 10th to the 12th century to the bishopric of Worms and then fell under the fiefdom of the Lords of Bolanden .
From 1457 until the end of the 18th century, the place was subordinate to the Palatinate Oberamt Alzey . During the so-called French period , the place was the seat of a Mairie in the canton of Bechtheim , which was part of the Donnersberg department . Due to the agreements reached at the Congress of Vienna in 1815 and a state treaty concluded in 1816 between Hesse , Austria and Prussia , the region and with it the municipality of Dorn-Dürkheim came to the Grand Duchy of Hesse and was assigned to the province of Rheinhessen . After the dissolution of the Rhine-Hessian cantons, the place came in 1835 to the newly established Worms district , to which it belonged until 1969.
In 1897, Dorn-Dürkheim received a railway connection on the Osthofen – Gau Odernheim line , the station was 1 km away in the neighboring village of Hillesheim (district station) . Passenger traffic was discontinued on September 29, 1974, freight traffic was gradually discontinued, most recently on December 31, 1992 on the section from Hillesheim / Dorn-Dürkheim to Gau-Odernheim.
After the Second World War , Dorn-Dürkheim came to the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate , initially in the district of Worms , and since 1974 in the district of Mainz-Bingen .
From 1972 to 2014 Dorn-Dürkheim belonged to the Guntersblum community and since July 1, 2014 to the Rhein-Selz community .

The Evangelical Church in Dorn-Dürkheim is one of three churches in the parish of Dorn-Dürkheim - Hillesheim - Wintersheim , which belongs to the Worms-Wonnegau deanery in the Rheinhessen provost of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau . The Catholic Church of St. Josef is a branch church of the parish of St. Jakobus with its seat in Dittelsheim-Heßloch , which belongs to the " parish group on the Way of St. James " in the Worms dean of the diocese of Mainz .

- The next train station is in Alsheim , about 6 km away. It is located on the route from Mainz to Worms .

- The Löwenzahn daycare center is a two-group facility that works across groups. From March 2010 the facility will be expanded to include another group with a small mix of ages. The catchment area includes the municipalities of Dorn-Dürkheim and Wintersheim .

In 1972 pedological investigations in Dorn-Dürkheim discovered one of the most species-rich mammal sites in Europe from the Miocene . Bones and teeth fragments of more than 70 species of mammals, including saber-toothed cats , hyenas, tapirs, muntjak deer, dwarf deer, forest antelopes, primitive horses and proboscis from around 8.5 million years ago, were found in a loop of the Urine Rhine .
