Günter Ederer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Günter Ederer (* 1941 in Fulda ) is a German business journalist , filmmaker and publicist whose films were most recently broadcast on ARD .

Public legal radio

From 1966 to 1969 Ederer worked for Südwestfunk Baden-Baden, from 1969 to 1990 for ZDF . In the 1970s he reported mainly from Europe about the economic crises and the political upheavals leading to democracy in southern Europe. From the end of the 1970s to the mid-1980s, Ederer provided information for the ZDF magazine auslandsjournal from Central America ( coffee, chaos, class struggle ) and after the overthrow of the Shah from Iran during the Iran-Iraq war ( blood for Allah ).

From 1984 onwards he reported for six years as a Far East correspondent from Tokyo on the upheavals in Asia, the change of power in the Philippines in 1986, the democratization of Taiwan and the student unrest during the 1988 Summer Olympics in South Korea . From the Pacific South Seas he informed about the consequences of the nuclear tests and global armament ( The lost paradise ).

Activity as an author

Ederer published seven books between 1991 and 2011. At the end of 2008 he quit his work as a filmmaker, but continues his journalistic activity as an author. From March 2009 the Fuldaer Zeitung printed his column "What Ludwig Erhard would say about it ...". He also publishes regularly on the Axis of the Good .

Film production

Ederer started his own business in 1990 with his wife ( Welt und Wirtschaft Filmproduktion Günter Ederer GmbH ).

Style and positions

For Ederer, journalism means getting involved. He doesn't believe in the formula that journalists shouldn't have something in common with one another. "That is bursting with hypocrisy and would be expected above all from those who are firmly anchored in a party-political orientation". He confessed "uncompromisingly to a free world and economic order".

In his 2011 book "Träum weiter, Deutschland!" Ederer criticized the German belief in the state in areas such as education, climate change and national debt. Since Bismarck's introduction of social security, calls have been made to the state, even though Bismarck's aim was to control the people. That is why the Nazi regime would have adhered to it under the term services of general interest.

According to an article by Fabian Schmidt in Bento , Ederer also became known for denying man-made global warming . Among other things, a comment from him in Die Welt , in which he described the “CO2 theory” as “ingenious propaganda”, was often shared in climate denial groups on the Internet. In another essay in the world Ederer 2011 denied by reference to the American Merchant of Doubt and lobbyists Fred Singer that CO 2 affects the climate. Ederer also gave a lecture with similar content at a conference organized by the climate denial organization EIKE . Because of these positions, a brochure by the Federal Environment Agency listed Ederer as one of several climate skeptics in Germany who questioned the results of global climate research .

In 2017 he appeared as a guest speaker at a conference in Düsseldorf hosted by EIKE and CFACT , two lobby organizations that deny man-made global warming.

criticism

In 2003, Volker Lilienthal criticized the fact that a third of the production costs of a three-part feature series Ederer's broadcast on ARD about “fairy tales” of social policy and the backlog of reforms was borne by the New Social Market Economy initiative through the acquisition of video rights .

Books

Reviews (selection)

  • The Nation's Fools (Report)
In January 1998, ARD broadcast a report on non-wage labor costs in an international comparison. The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung commented: “Accuracy is the prerequisite for outrage. That, above all, is the strength of Ederer's report. Because he let the financial scientists and the payroll clerk do their math over and over again, he is also allowed to speak of the madness of the redistribution machinery and claim that Ludwig Erhard's social market economy has meanwhile become a state economy. "
  • Longing for a mendacious world - Our fear of freedom, the market and personal responsibility (book)
Gerd Habermann described the book in the FAZ as "A mass grave for holy cows". It is a stroke of luck when a television journalist not only delivers brilliant economic reports in the spirit of market-economy regulatory policy, but is also a fascinating book writer, angular and extremely liberal.
  • Fairy tale series on taxes and subsidies (reports)
Heike Göbel wrote these reports in the ARD (first broadcast on May 14, 2007) in the FAZ: “ Failing under German tax law is no shame. You can't understand it, every cliché is true. Many in this country have known that for a long time without this knowledge changing anything. So why watch another film about the misery? Because it comes from Günter Ederer, because it gives consolation and because you are seldom entertained well enough on television with economic topics in a good and qualified manner. "
  • The winner's faint smile.
At the end of the 1980s, Ederer looked to Asia with resignation. Japan's rise to become the first economic power seemed unstoppable. He was wrong.
