The German Taxpayers Institute ( DSi ) is the financial research institute of the Association of Taxpayers Germany (BdSt) based in Berlin . Originally it was called the Karl-Bräuer Institute of the Association of Taxpayers eV ( KBI ) after the co-founder of the Association of Taxpayers and its second president (1950–1961), Karl Bräuer .

history

The institute has existed since 1965. As an independent, registered, non-profit association, its task is to promote efforts in the field of public finance and taxation through scientific research, reports and statements, in particular, aimed at improving the public budget and tax system and to scientifically substantiate the demands of the Federation of Taxpayers.

The institute changed its name in 2013 after the publicist Volker Koop investigated the role of Karl Bräuer during the Nazi era on behalf of the Taxpayers Association .

Mission and organization

The institute publishes its work in several series of publications. It is financed for the most part from donations from members and non-members of the Association of Taxpayers and from contributions from the regional associations of the Association of Taxpayers. It does not receive any public grants. Members of the association are the state associations of the Federation of Taxpayers.

The chairman of the board is always the president of the Federation of Taxpayers in personal union .

Karl Bräuer Prize

The Karl Bräuer Prize was founded in 1957 by the 15 regional associations of the German Association of Taxpayers . The award, endowed with 10,000 euros, was given every three years in Germany for journalistic and scientific work that dealt with the financial management of the German public sector in a factually impeccable manner .

In the course of the investigation of Karl Bräuer's Nazi past and the renaming of the Karl Bräuer Institute, the award of the award was discontinued. The previous winners received a certificate that had been adjusted for the name of Bräuers.
