Heike Goebel
Heike Göbel (born August 15, 1959 in Leverkusen ) is a German business journalist. Since 2002 she has been the responsible editor for economic policy at the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung .
Life and professional development
After graduating from high school, Göbel studied Indology and Political Science in Freiburg, but then decided to study economics , which she graduated from Heidelberg University in 1986 with a diploma.
In 1989 she started working as a journalist for the Stuttgarter Nachrichten . She has been the business editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung since 1992, and in 2002 she took over the economic policy department. Her specialty is the "order of the economy".
Göbel is married and has two children.
Memberships
She is a member of the jury of the Georg von Holtzbrinck Prize for Business Journalism and the Ludwig Erhard Prize for Business Journalism . She is also a member of the Ludwig Erhard Foundation and the Friedrich A. von Hayek Society .
Positions
minimum wage
In 2015, Göbel described the state's influence on a "fair" minimum wage as inappropriate, since in a market economy it should be determined by competition, not politics, because in the end the customer would have to pay for increased wage costs.
She wrote: Income in a market economy depends on the scarcity of performance, not on the effort or usefulness to society. Those who can do what others cannot do, get more money. This is an incentive to invest talent and training in fields where they are needed.
Quota for women
From a market economy perspective, the quota for the employment of women appears to her under certain circumstances as an unnecessary disruptive factor, since not every highly qualified woman fits into the positions now opened by law. The quota is not a calculation example.
VW exhaust fraud scandal
Politicians share responsibility for the use of the fraudulent software . The earnings of the VW group would help the budget of the state of Lower Saxony and satisfied employees are possibly also satisfied voters. This in turn would give the unions a strong position. The political and trade union influence caused the company to have high personnel costs and an inflexible permanent staff. The group tries to compensate for these shortcomings with "innovations and savings". This may have been a mainspring for manipulation.
Development policy
In her 2008 article in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung “Why is development aid harming?”, Göbel criticized the current system of development cooperation. "Under the flag of charity [...] a huge help industry" has established itself, which represents an "inscrutable network of supranational, state, semi-state and private organizations and companies". In her text, Göbel calls for a real partnership “on an equal footing” between developing and industrialized countries; it also suggests further "integrating the developing countries into the world market". As a positive example, she cites the so-called tiger states in Southeast Asia and, more recently, China.
