Volker Koop

Volker Koop (* 1945 in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm , Upper Bavaria) is a German publicist , non-fiction author and journalist.

Life

The journalist, with posts in print media, radio and television in Nienburg / Weser, Osnabrück, Kiel, Hamburg and Bonn, was, among other things, spokesman for the Schleswig-Holstein Prime Minister Gerhard Stoltenberg and for several years spokesman for the Berlin Senator for Federal Affairs Rupert Scholz . In 1987 he moved to the information and press staff of the Federal Ministry of Defense . Koop has been working as a freelance journalist and publicist in Berlin since 1995. He is a member of the German Association of Journalists in Berlin, the Federal Press Conference and the author of over 30 non-fiction books, mainly on topics from German and European post-war history. For some years now he has been devoting himself more and more to the popular scientific approach to National Socialism and has earned a reputation that extends beyond Germany. He belongs u. a. the support association of the memorial and the Sachsenhausen museum . He holds lectures and discussions on the above topics, including for political foundations ( Hanns Seidel Foundation , Konrad Adenauer Foundation ), adult education centers, schools and libraries. Koop gave lectures at the University of Freiburg and in Paris, as well as repeatedly at Urania in Berlin . TV stations such as B. ZDF or MDR make use of it. He also supports international researchers and universities in their scientific research. For his work on the popular uprising in Berlin and in the GDR on June 17, 1953 , he was awarded the 2003 Italian-German culture prize “Capo Circeo” in Rome.
