Dietmar Schössler

Dietmar Schössler (* 1937 in Nordhausen ) is a German political scientist and military sociologist .

Life

Schössler fled the Soviet occupation zone (SBZ) in 1947 and found a new home in Stuttgart . After high school at Eberhard-Ludwigs-Gymnasium Stuttgart in 1958 he performed as a reserve officer cadet military service in the 1st Airborne Division of the Bundeswehr. Today he holds the rank of lieutenant colonel in the army reserve.

From 1960 to 1966 he studied sociology and political science at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen , the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg and the University of Mannheim (graduate sociologist). In 1970 he was at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Mannheim with the dissertation The primacy of the civil. An analysis of the civil-military relations in the Federal Republic of Germany with Dr. phil. PhD. In 1982 he completed his habilitation with the thesis Security Policy or Self-Dynamics. The strategic relations between the USA and the USSR .

He then represented chairs in Trier, Bamberg, Saarbrücken and Frankfurt am Main. In 1983 he became an adjunct professor for political science at the University of Mannheim. From 1992 to 2002 he was Professor of Political Science with special focus on security policy at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich .

Schössler published a. a. a standard work on military sociology. From 1996 he became editor of the Clausewitz studies of the Clausewitz Society , of which he is a member. He is also a member of the military and social sciences working group .
