Michael Plathow

Michael Plathow (born May 25, 1943 in Posen ) is a German Protestant theologian .

Live and act

Michael Plathow grew up as the son of pastor Gerhard Plathow and his wife Marianne Plathow, née. Busching, in a theologically influenced parental home.

After graduating from the Kiel School of Academics , he began studying theology and law at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel. He then continued his theology studies at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen (with Gerhard Ebeling ) and the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg . He took the theological exam in Heidelberg in 1969 and the church exam in Karlsruhe in 1974 after completing a doctorate on Karl Barth under Edmund Schlink in 1973 . In 1979 he completed his habilitation at the Ruprecht-Karls-University on teaching and order in the life of the church . In 1986 the professorship for systematic theology at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität followed.

From 1972 to 1980, Plathow was a research assistant and head of studies at the Ecumenical Institute in Heidelberg (with Reinhard Slenczka ), 1980–1981 provisional director and Ephorus. 1982–2001 he was pastor in the Wicherngemeinde Heidelberg-Kirchheim and deputy dean. In addition, during this time he was chairman of the local working group of Christian Churches and ideology commissioner of the Heidelberg deanery. 2001–2007 he was director of the denominational institute of the Evangelical Federation in Bensheim and Federal Director of the Evangelical Federation . Since his retirement in 2008 he has continued to teach at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg, preaches regularly in the university church and is active on numerous committees.

Michael Plathow was with Ursula, geb. Grimly married, who died in March 2005. The doctor Christian Plathow (* 1972) and the teacher Barbara Plathow (* 1975) emerged from the marriage.
