Erich Weede

Erich Weede (born January 4, 1942 in Hildesheim ) is a German sociologist , graduated psychologist , doctorate and post-doctorate political scientist and, since 2004, emeritus professor of sociology at the University of Bonn .

Life

Erich Weede obtained the degree of psychologist at the University of Hamburg in 1966 . He completed a second degree in sociology and political science and a year of study in the United States . In 1970 the doctorate to Dr. phil., in 1975 he received the right to teach in Political Science at the University of Mannheim .

From 1974 to 1978 Weede was a senior scientific employee at the Center for Surveys, Methods and Analyzes (ZUMA) in Mannheim . In 1978 he was appointed professor of sociology at the University of Cologne . In 1986 and 1987 he also taught as visiting professor for international relations at the Bologna Center at Johns Hopkins University . In 1997 he followed a call from the University of Bonn to the renowned chair for sociology of Friedrich Fürstenberg .

Weede regularly writes peculiarly free for the magazine . In 2004 he received the Richardson Lifetime Achievement Award , which is presented every three years by the European Consortium of Political Research (ECPR). He received the Hayek Medal from the Friedrich A. von Hayek Society in 2012 .

In addition to Eckart Conze , Joachim Scholtyseck , Jürgen Frölich and Ewald Grothe, Weede was editor of the “ Yearbook on Liberalism Research ” of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom from 2012 to 2016 .

Weede expressly describes himself as a “ libertarian ” in the American sense and rejects the social market economy and the western-style welfare state - because it is debt -based.

Weede is a member of the German Society for Foreign Policy (DGAP) , the German Society for Political Science (DGfPW) , the German Society for Sociology (DGS) , the Friedrich A. von Hayek Society , the International Political Science Association (IPSA) , International Sociological Association (ISA) , the International Studies Association (ISA) , the List Society , the Mont Pelerin Society , and the PSS (I) Peace Science Society (International) .

Weede was President of PSS (I) from 1982 and 1983, Vice President of the International Studies Association (ISA) from 1985 to 1986 and European Editor of the journal International Interactions from 1988 to 1997 .
